'A Sydney Valentine' © Sherie Sloane Pen on Watercolor Paper
It was our first Valentine together and in Australia. I wanted it to be special, so I brought her to the Sydney Harbour to paint it at sunset. Soon as we found the perfect spot, she sat down to lay her watercolors and paper. Her excitement was just overflowing. So much that she forgot her paint brushes! I didn't want to spoil the moment so I reassured her I'll go back to get those. She was quite reluctant to let me go since it's a good mile of walking. But I wasn't giving up. What better way to make that day more special than to see her do the thing she loves the most - paint.
Twenty minutes of walking and jogging felt like a marathon. But it was all worth it. I can't wait for her to get started. Few feet away, she seemed already focused on something. What can she be doing, she has no brush even a pencil to doodle on something. I quietly sat down next to her. Much to my surprise, she already drew the harbor scene with the pen I left her earlier that day. She handed her little masterpiece to me and said "Thank you for getting my brushes." In the back, she wrote "You'll always be beautiful in my eyes. You inspire me to see the beauty in this world."
It was the perfect gift! And the perfect date. A year after, I married her.
